I just bought the perch pan and want to know what to use to keep the pan conditioned, since I did not buy the Camp Chef Cast Iron Conditioner. The insert that came w/ the pan noted that for additional methods of maintenance, go the the web site: http://www.campchef.com/seasoning. I have yet to find anything that offers an alternative to the ‘brand’ conditioner. Can you help?

Jill,
Vegetable shortening is a good alternative to the Cast Iron Conditioner; just make sure you only apply a thin coating of it.

I baked a loaf of bread at our last Troop campout in Borego Springs. I think I got the Dutch oven a little too warm for the second rising and stopped the yeast activity a little early. Darn. But I still have a lot to learn!!
